I think Detroit is a whole different playing field though. A lot of crime happens there. A LOT. So a 12-hour shift could result in all kinds of bad things happening. I think the D.P.D. just needs a larger force. Then they can easily switch these guys out on shifts. But if people are having to pull 12-hour shifts. That means there's a cop shortage or somewhere, the department is understaffed. Virginia has crime too. But not like Detroit. And the Detroit crime is a different breed of crime.

This is why some people want to blend police forces with volunteer police officers. Volunteer cops would do certain neighborhoods to take the pressure off of the D.P.D. cops. But you're not gonna find many volunteer police in Detroit. Retired officers or people who have police training and experience. Who are willing to put on a gun, and go out and deal with people who are younger, stronger, and larger in number than they are. Not to mentioned better armed. It's a pipe dream really.
