You'd be surprised how many cops have drug dealers here in New York City, out there dealing for them. This has always been the problem with cops today. They allow dealers to remain on the streets. Just so as long as they keep feeding them information about other "bad guys". Problem is, eventually...the cops start to tax those dealers. So now the dealer is ponying up a percentage of his drug profits to a cop. A supposed lawman. In exchange, the cop or cops keep him out of prison. Of course once the heat begins to come down a bit, the cop will bust that guy in a heartbeat to save himself. What a corrupt system it truly is.

It also sucks for the dealer who is also probably being taxed by more powerful dealers and gangs already for doing business in their turf. And as more cops get involved, the dealers "tax" will go up. Because now he could be paying two or three cops. And if he has less money to pay the other bad guys, then he risks getting killed by them. That's if his "cop friends" don't turn on him first and send him to jail.
