BOYNTON Beach, Fla. — Just-released dash cam video shows police pursue a robbery suspect, then fatally shoot him when he fires at officers on the side of a residential street.
Police released the footage after Paul Zachs, the county's Chief Assistant State Attorney, cleared Officers Eric Reynolds and Christopher Munro of criminal charges on Thursday. The police department had not pursued disciplinary action against them in connection to the June incident.
The vehicle pursuit began when officers followed the red Lincoln Town car of Calvin Wallace, 52, which matched the description of one connected to a reported robbery at SunTrust Bank, The New York Daily News reported. During the pursuit, Wallace refused to stop for officers and eventually hit another car.
Just after the impact, Wallace is seen in the video opening the driver's side door and firing at Munro and Reynolds from inside the Lincoln. The officers return fire, killing him.
According to the Palm Beach Post, Wallace had been in scuffles with officers before. In 2009, police deployed a TASER after finding 54.3 grams of Ecstasy in his car.
Reynolds was treated for a gunshot wound to the foot.
