SPANISH FORT, Ala. — A Spanish Fort police officer accused of rape has been cleared by a dash cam video that landed the alleged victim in jail.
Lisha Michelle Weaver, 31, first came in contact with police Saturday at Drifter’s Lounge, where an officer answered a call of a stolen driver’s license, according to the Press-Register. The officer saw the ID inside a bra worn by Weaver, who began to fight while being taken into custody.
She was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest and transported to jail. Later, she told Baldwin County Sheriff’s investigators that during the transport, the officer pulled over and raped her.
But officials reviewed the dash cam video, which aside from pauses for a few lights and stop signs, shows the officer driving straight to jail.
The officer "never had any sort of opportunity to do any sort of sexual assault," Police Chief David Edgar told Fox 10 TV. He "has worked very hard…to maintain and build a good reputation, and it only takes one complaint like this that could tarnish that reputation."
Weaver was charged with filing a false report and rendering false alarm and released from Baldwin County Jail on $2,000 bond.
