ALTAVISTA, Va. — Virginia State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a resident by a member of the Altavista Police Department.
A police shooting investigative team is handling the investigation into the deadly shooting, which occurred Wednesday night. State police did not release additional details.
Media reports are quoting family members who say the victim was an 83-year-old woman who was shot behind her home on 10th Street.
They said Delma Towler was heading to another house because she believed her home was being burglarized.
Altavista's police chief requested the state police investigation.
