A Curry County jail booking officer is accused of stealing $500 from an inmate. He has been charged with misdemeanor larceny.

Sounds like a deal that went wrong. They probably had a prior arrangement of some sort, and the cop just decided to start stealing from the guy because he could. Being the power of things and all. This inmate was most likely not gang affiliated so stealing from him wouldn't have any fatal consequences for the officer in the long run.
