ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- A man riding a four-wheel ATV across North Kingshighway Saturday night was killed in a collision with a police vehicle. Lt. Carlos Ross, traffic safety commander for the St. Louis Police Department, said the victim was westbound across Kingshighway at Highland Avenue at 7:30 p.m. when he collided with a southbound police SUV on routine patrol. Ross said the victim was the lead vehicle of four men riding ATVs. Ross said the victim, in his mid-to-late 20s, was pronounced dead at a hospital. He said the two officers in the SUV were taken to a hospital for observation. Ross said ATVs are not allowed on city streets. He said the four riders had been westbound on Highland, which is blocked by a gate at Kingshighway but has sidewalk access. Two riders drove away, but the fourth stopped to assist his friend and spoke to investigators, Ross said. Copyright 2014 - St. Louis Post-Dispatch Tribune News Service
