SHENANDOAH, Pa. -- Evidence of drug use in the borough over the winter months became apparent as the snow melted and drug paraphernalia appeared in public places, a situation of which the borough police force is aware. For police Chief George Carado, finding instruments of illegal drug use in public areas, such as Girard Park, is something familiar to him as a police officer for two decades. In an age of social media, such as Facebook, information about people finding those drug abuse items becomes public quickly. "I've talked to other police officers in the area and we're all dealing with more drug crime," Carado said Thursday. Carado said finding discarded syringes can be connected to the increased use of heroin, though that is not the only drug involved.
