Police are searching for a man who assaulted a police officer in Brooklyn Friday night.

The assault took place at around 10:50 a.m. inside the Gates Ave J train subway station, where police say they observed 25-year-old Michael Ellison using a student metro card. As police tried arrest Ellison, they say he resisted, knocking a female officer down a flight of stairs before fleeing.

The officer sustained two broken ankles and a laceration to the head requiring 10 stitches.

Ellison is described as being approximately 6 feet tall, 185 pounds, with a tattoo on the rights side of his neck of the word "Smoove."

Bad deal for the female officer who got two broken ankles (ouch), but why were they trying to arrest this guy? Granted, a 25-year old trying to use a student metrocard is a bit odd, but it is NOT an arrestable offense.
