CHAMPAIGN – Police officials said they will not be releasing any more information on Sunday and are asking for the public’s patience while Illinois State Police investigate the police shooting of an armed man early Sunday morning.

Champaign police would only say that the man was injured and taken to Carle Foundation Hospital. They would not comment on the extent of his injuries, his current condition or whether the man shot at police.

The man was shot by police after officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Crispus Drive at 4:42 a.m. for a domestic disturbance call. When they arrived, they found the man “had forced his way into the home and was armed with a gun,” police say.
