MARIETTA, Ga. — Authorities say a portion of Interstate 75 north of Atlanta is shut down after police shot and killed an armed robbery suspect after a chase that ended on the highway in Cobb County.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/NU6EFm ) the shooting happened Sunday after officers stopped the suspect's car on I-75 southbound near the North Marietta Parkway. Police say the suspect pointed a gun at officer, who then shot him. The slain suspect's name was not immediately released.


Cherokee County sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker says the suspect was wanted in Woodstock gas station robbery Sunday and also fit the description of an armed man reported in a separate robbery in Cobb County earlier in the morning.
