MINNEAPOLIS — Police quickly apprehended a shooting suspect when a road-rage altercation between a man and two motorcyclists took place outside their station.
"You can't make stuff like this up," Isanti County Attorney Jeff Edblad told FOX 9 News. "You just can't."
Joseph Kadlec, 71, faces felony charges for allegedly shooting a motorcyclist in the face in the parking lot of the Isanti Police Department Saturday afternoon.
The incident began when Kadlec became angry at a man and his wife speeding past him on their bikes, swerving toward one of them and launching a back-and-forth between the groups.
"At one point, one of the motorcyclists is alleged to have kicked the side of the vehicle driven by the defendant," Edblad said.
The fight came to a head when the motorcyclists pulled into the police precinct parking lot, where observers called 911 about a man who pulled a gun.
Fox 9 said Kadlec, who holds a concealed carry permit, shot the 29-year-old motorcyclist in the face at point-blank range, just as officers left the station to investigate the call. The wife reportedly witnessed the shooting.
Kadlec was apprehended and charged with three felonies, including attempted manslaughter in the first degree. If he posts $100,000 bail, he must forfeit his driver's license, concealed permit and any weapons he owns.
